Along with Leos Janacek, Bohuslav Martinu was one of the twin giants of Czech music in the twentieth century, a composer with a distinctly individual voice and a versatility that led him to excel in every medium from stage works to symphonies to string quartets. Martinu was born in the Moravian town of Policka. Starting violin lessons at the of seven, he gave his first recital when he was 15. By the age of 10 he had written his first compositions; his juvenilia include songs, piano music, symphonic poems, string quartets, and ballets. In 1906, he entered Prague Conservatory, but reading and the theater diverted Martinu from his studies, and he was finally expelled for "incorrigible negligence" in 1910. However, he continued composing. Exempted, as a .......

John Cale - Paris 1919 (1973) [2006 Expanded/Remastered]
Pop-Rock | EAC Rip | Lossless FLAC with Log+Cue+Covers -> 450MB | Nitroflare/1Fichier

One of John Cale's very finest solo efforts, Paris 1919 is also among his most accessible records, one which grows in depth and resonance with each successive listen. A consciously literary work -- the songs even bear titles like "Child's Christmas in Wales," "Macbeth," and "Graham Greene" -- Paris 1919 is close in spirit to a collection of short stories; the songs are richly poetic, enigmatic period pieces strongly evocative of their time and place. Chris Thomas' production is appropriately lush and sweeping, with many tracks set to orchestral accompaniment; indeed, there's little here to suggest either Cale's noisy, abrasive past or the chaos about to resurface in his subsequent work -- for better or worse, his music never achieved a similar beauty again. [This reissue features 11 bonus tracks in the form of alternate mixes, demos, rehearsals and outtakes from the Paris 1919 sessions.] Details

The BBC Philharmonic and Rumon Gamba here pull out all the stops to play these works with the precision and passion they require. Jennifer Pike, an exclusive Chandos artist, joins them in the Violin Concerto.

Hyacinthe Jadin - String Trios Op.2
NCA | Recorded: 1999 | Released: 2000
Ensemble Les Adieux (on period instruments)

Hyacinthe Jadin (April 27, 1776, Versailles – September 27, 1800, Paris) was a French composer who came from a distinguished musical family. His uncle Georges Jadin was a composer in Versailles and Paris, along with his father Jean Jadin, who had also played bassoon for the French Royal Orchestra. He was one of five musically gifted brothers, the most famous of which was Louis-Emmanuel Jadin.
Jadin was a pupil of Nicolas Joseph Hüllmandel, who belonged to the famous École des Pianistes Parisiens (School of Pianists in Paris). Hüllmandel himself was a student of C.P.E. Bach, and was an excellent teacher who brought out Jadin's pianistic brilliance. At the age of 9, Jadin’s first composition, a Rondo for piano, was published in the Journal de Clavecin. By the age of thirteen, Jadin had premiered his first work with the Concert Spirituel.

Recorded in Moscow between 1978 and 1983, the quartets are excellently reproduced in digital sound by Sviatoslav Richter, who maintains just enough shadow from the old Melodiya vinyl's audio vérité to make the music breathe passionately...

Musicologist Adrian Thomas considered Grazyna Bacewiczs string quartets unrivalled in 20th-century Polish music and one of the centurys most significant contributions to the genre. Her folk-music infused First Quartet dates from student days at the Paris Conservatoire, while exceptional polyphonic skill, intense emotion and playful, high spirits characterize the Third Quartet. Both the Sixth and Seventh Quartets unite tradition with a strikingly effective and highly personal exploration of progressive contemporary techniques. As Lutoslawski observed, in the rapidly changing artistic currents of the times, it was [Bacewiczs] music which helped create that atmosphere. Details

"These recordings by the Flieder Trio were taped way back in 1990 but the passing of more than two decades has not dimmed the refreshingly spontaneous playing that is coming "straight from the heart", and the spirited and consistently brilliant interpretations are still as alluring as ever before. A generously filled well annotated disc that should fill one of the many gaps in the Boccherini discography. Recommended, even to die-hard periodists." ~

This is a highly distinctive album in the mountain of Vivaldi CDs. The works come from a manuscript in the library of the Paris Conservatory that is thought to have been originally presented to a French nobleman. It is thought that only two of the concertos were new, while the other 10 were chosen from those Vivaldi had on hand. Whatever the truth of this, this set of concertos represents a highly winning, perhaps more subtle aspect of Vivaldi's style than one usually comes in contact with. The works are scored for strings, although Standage doubles them with winds occasionally, as was period practice.
