Just in case anyone in 2006 was wondering where the planet's pre-eminent funk-rock group were heading next, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released a behemoth double album with the muscular name Stadium Arcadium – surely a title impossible to read without hearing it in a meaty, WWF ring announcer's voice. Half a decade on, and with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer replacing John Frusciante, bassist Flea has cited "life and death" (that perennial favourite) as "a major theme" of their 10th album.

It's no secret that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have long been one of rock's top live bands. But strangely, the group hadn't issued a live album during their career, that is, until 2004's Live in Hyde Park (but even in this instance, it was for Euro consumption only). Recorded in June of the same year while on tour in support of By the Way, the majority of the set list is comprised of tracks from their that album, and its predecessor, Californication. Guitarist John Frusciante has obviously given the group an extra kick musically when he rejoined the band -- the Peppers posses some of the greatest instrumental interplay of any rock band, and they don't disappoint with Live in Hyde Park. Losing John Frusciante for a second time doesn’t send the Red Hot Chili Peppers into a tailspin. By now, the Chili Peppers shed guitarists like a second skin, changing their outer layer but retaining their inner core. Such is the case with I’m with You, the band’s first album since 2006’s Stadium Arcadium. If that double-disc was defined by its unwieldy sprawl, its songs spewed not sequenced, I’m with You is characterized by its focus, both within individual tunes and the songs as a whole...

Mother's Milk is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on August 16, 1989, on EMI Records. After the death of founding guitarist Hillel Slovak and subsequent departure of drummer Jack Irons, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea regrouped with the addition of guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith. Frusciante's influence altered the band's sound by placing more emphasis on melody than rhythm, which had dominated the band's previous material. Returning producer Michael Beinhorn favored heavy metal guitar riffs as well as overdubbing that was perceived by Frusciante as excessive, and as a result Beinhorn and Frusciante constantly fought over the album's guitar sound.

Freaky Styley is the second studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on August 16, 1985 on EMI Records. The album name holds its origins in a commonly used phrase in the '80s to describe anything as being "freaky styley". Freaky Styley marks founding guitarist Hillel Slovak's studio album debut, following his return to the band earlier in the year. The album is also the last to feature drummer Cliff Martinez. Freaky Styley was produced by George Clinton, of Parliament-Funkadelic.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the fifth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on September 24, 1991. Produced by Rick Rubin, it was the band's first record released on Warner Bros. Records. The musical styles of Blood Sugar Sex Magik differed notably from the techniques employed on the Chili Peppers' preceding album, Mother's Milk, and featured little use of heavy metal guitar riffs. The album's subject matter incorporated sexual innuendos and references to drugs and death as well as themes of lust and exuberance. Blood Sugar Sex Magik also ranked number 310 on Rolling Stone's the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and number 14 on the "100 Best Albums of the Nineties".
