You can't get these chords with your neighborhood piano teacher. These chords are "secret" chords that the streets possess and are shared only in underground basement shed sessions. For the first time, these secret chords will be exposed for all of it's funky glory. You get a little over an hour of the phattest neo-soul chord progressions that you hear on the radio or from your favorite neo-soul artists. We spent time in the studio showing the movements, then we took time to chart out all of the movements in a nice score. You get the MIDI files for your tracks and for your virtual MIDI viewer such as MIDIculous. Finally you get tons of theory booklets and resources so that you actually understand what you are playing. The notations are so easy to follow and very simple to understand.

VA - Swinging Japan: The Neo-Mod Scene Tokyo Style (2015)
MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 44:36 | 107 Mb + 5% Recovery
Genre: Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Garage Rock, Beat, Mod / Label: Acid Jazz

In truth, most will be unaware of the vibrancy of the Japanese "neo-mod" scene, an apparently thriving collection of (mostly Tokyo-based) bands paying tributes to the classic sounds of the 1960s. Thankfully, this compilation from Acid Jazz is the perfect introduction, showcasing the garage-rock, Small Faces and Who-influenced sounds being pushed forwards by the likes of Shotgun Runners, The Furs, The Hair, and The Crawlin' Kingsnakes. While some of the English vocals have a distinctive Japanese lilt, otherwise this material could have been recorded in Kilbun, circa 1965. Loud, energetic and blessed with more than a frisson of excitement, Swinging Japan is an enjoyable eye-opener for those with a love of mod culture. Details

Jazz / Neo Bop / Fusion / Drums / Bass / Flute

Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. A sweet 70s set from the ultra-hip rhythm duo of bassist John Lee and drummer Gerry Brown – working here in a European setting with loads of great reed work to support the "bamboo" vibe of the title! Flute player Chris Hinze blows both bamboo and regular flute – and the feel of the set is like some of his excellent fusion dates from the same time – but the record also has lots of great work from Gary Bartz on alto and soprano sax, plus some keyboards from Hubert Eaves and Jasper Van'T Hof – two very different players who balance out the mood nicely. Some tracks are full-on fusion, but they're offset by mellower, more introspective passages – of the sort that really let the reed players come out strongly – and titles include "Jua", "Rise On", "Who Can See The Shadow Of The Moon", "Infinite Jones", and "Deliverance".

Jazz / Neo Bop / Post Bop / Saxophone

Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. Finland's premier saxophonist Koivistoinen ventured to New York City for this CD and employed some of the finest jazz players, including trombonist Conrad Herwig, trumpeter Randy Brecker, pianist David Kikoski, bassist Ron McClure, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and guitarist John Scofield (on four cuts). Bugge Wesseltoft plays rather innocent, unobtrusive sythesizer on three other pieces. The horn charts are smartly arranged by the tenor and soprano saxophonist, and played to perfection. The music is contemporary, bop-based, modernistic, and well-swung by DeJohnette's personalized chatty signature rhythms.

Jazz / Post Bop / Neo Bop / Piano

Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. Beautiful solo work from pianist Mike Nock – a set that's got some of the dark edges and dynamic energy of Nock's previous 70s recordings – but an album that also shows some newly lyrical elements as well! Some passages have Mike hitting the keys with the sort of frenzied creation he reached on fusion recordings – but with wonderful results on the acoustic piano – and other moments have this enhanced sense of melody that makes for very beautiful, expressive passages – maybe a touch more sentiment than the younger Nock would have allowed himself, but never in a way that's soppy or overdone. The balance in these modes is great – and reminds us that Nock can be equally compelling a solo performer as he is in a group – on titles that include "Enchanted Garden", "Polyhedron", "Fallen Angel", "California Country Song", "Soliloquy", and "Jacanori".
