An archaeological manhunt is raging in the holy land -- a hunt for the historical Jesus. For Nathan Lee Swift, a young American field researcher and expectant father, the line between noble discovery and the plunder of ruins is sacred -- until the night he crosses it. At a Roman landfill beneath the crucifixion grounds known as Golgotha, Nathan Lee yields to his professor's greed and turns common grave robber. His world -- his unborn daughter -- seems lost to him. Hundreds of miles away, on the remote Greek island of Corfu, a wealthy collector pries open his latest black-market purchase -- a fourteen-inch holy relic containing a vial of blood dating back to the first century -- and unleashes a two-thousand-year-old plague. Aretha Franklin has simply been one of the greatest singers of the modern generation, and whether bringing her powerful, passionate voice to bear on gospel standards, songs from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, pop ditties, or deep Southern soul and R&B, she has always had the presence -- much like Ray Charles -- to make anything she touches unmistakably hers. Franklin began her career in gospel when she was still a teenager, and her amazing vocal talents, coupled with her fine piano playing, marked her as a once-in-a-lifetime kind of artist, qualities very apparent to legendary talent scout John Hammond, who signed her to Columbia Records.

Batman: The Long Halloween TPB
Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale | DC Comics | CBR | ISBN 1563894696 | Canada: 6th Printing | Nov 1 1999 | 377 Pages (c2c) | 145.30 MB

Batman: The Long Halloween is the title of a 13-issue comic book limited series written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale published by DC Comics in 1996 through 1997, from Halloween to Halloween. It was inspired by the three Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Specials by the same creative team, and made possible at the instance, and under the guidance of, then series editor Archie Goodwin. The entire series has been collected in trade paperback edition, this one. Taking place during Batman's early days of crime fighting, The Long Halloween tells the story of a mysterious killer who murders people on holidays, one each month. Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who the killer is before he claims his next victim each month. It also tells the origin of Two-Face, adding along to the story in Batman: Annual #14. In continuity terms, The Long Halloween takes place after the events of Batman: Year One, showing the transition of Batman's rogues' gallery from simple mob goons to full-fledged supervillains. Several stories definitely take place in between Year One and The Long Halloween, including Batman and the Monster Men, Batman and the Mad Monk, and Batman: The Man Who Laughs, the last of which tells of the first encounter between Batman and the Joker, following up on the events of Year One. It has been accepted into continuity after Zero Hour erased the events of Batman: Year Two from the canon. This is a prime example of what a Batman story should be and how it should be done. Harry Goldstein of IGN after a positive critical review would rank The Long Halloween #5 on a list of the 25 best Batman graphic novels (at the top of which is Batman: Year One) of all time.

Just because it took them 13 years to deliver a studio sequel to their 1994 live album Hell Freezes Over, don't say it took the Eagles a long time to cash in on their reunion. They started cashing in almost immediately, driving up ticket prices into the stratosphere as they played gigs on a semi-regular basis well into the new millennium...

This CD reissue begins with what is titled "Take 1" of "A Long Drink of the Blues." After a false start, the musicians argue for two minutes about the tempo; why was this ever released? "Take 2" is a much more successful 20-minute jam featuring Jackie McLean (doubling on alto and tenor), trombonist Curtis Fuller, trumpeter Webster Young, pianist Gil Coggins, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Louis Hayes. ~ AllMusic

Long John's second album for the Alligator imprint is even more potent than his first, Texas Border Legend. This time around, Hunter's sly, drawling vocals and stinging clusters of guitar are well to the fore, keeping the spotlight firmly in place on this Texas guitar legend. The record was cut in Austin and Abilene, Texas, and as such boasts Lone Star talent like Derek O'Brien, who plays rhythm guitar on this disc and solos on "I Don't Care" and "V-8 Ford." Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff blows saxophone on eight tunes and harmonica on "Locksmith Man." For his part, Hunter contributes 10 of the 14 tunes, co-writing with various members of his Walking Catfish Band or his co-producers, Tary Owens and John Foose. Long John's no-holds-barred approach literally screams Texas blues, letting you know you're listening to an originator, not an imitator.
