RMI's Steve Dinsdale, Duncan Goddard, and Gary Houghton know how to coax all sorts of nuances from their machines, and they function as a live, interactive trio, with each member responding to the others' riffs and musical motifs. It doesn't hurt any, either, that Houghton has very impressive guitar chops, so when he eases into the mix with some blistering Stratocaster bursts, he rather convincingly updates (and improves upon) Edgar Froese's generic and rather predictable guitar flights on the seminal Tangerine Dream recordings...

The trio made up of Steve Dinsdale, Duncan Goddard and Gary Houghton play various sequencers, mellotrones, guitars, Fender Squires, Moogs and samplers all to good effect. Radio Massacre International has been playing together since 1979, first as a band called DAS, which released 12 albums between 1980-87, and have recorded together as RMI since 1993. Emissaries is a 2-CD set, the first being a studio set of 6 tracks that make up the hour long Emissaries Suite, and the second documents a live radio performance from 2004.

Radio Massacre International is a trio of English musicians (Duncan Goddard, Steve Dinsdale, Gary Houghton) known for their extended concerts of epic aural excursions. Their performances are largely improvised and often veer off into areas dictated by mood, circumstance or whim. RMI's recorded output reflects the diversity and complexity of this work, which is often compared to that of the Berlin School of cosmic music that emerged in Germany during the 1970s. But RMI is not simply re-creating the music of this era, but rather further exploring and contemplating the expressional mode and the instruments that made it possible - in hopes of realizing new ideas...

RMI have to be viewed as one of the most innovative of recent groups. Certainly within the electronic music space, a field that has the same devotion and non wavering loyalty to sub-genres as does heavy metal. You're either "Berlin School" or "Ambient" or "Techno" or any other such labels, but you shouldn't be all of them - say many fans. RMI, who started out pretty much "Berlin School", is now all the above and more, with recent excursions into trippy Krautrock and whatever else they feel like doing. "Septentrional" is one of their most polarizing CD albums. Produced by Ian Boddy and released on his DiN label, "Septentrional" is RMI at their most modern and controversial.

Another principle of our private releases is to let you hear what would otherwise have stayed on the cutting floor, as it were. so to speak. we debated long into the mancunian night, stoned as mongooses, about the content and sequencing of the last 'un, which you've all got by now, obviously. so here's the rest of the finished stuff that would have took us into triple album territory if we hadn't pruned. these four were recorded during the "borrowed atoms" sessions and went through the same rigorous post-production as the commercial cd; that's to say you aren't being fobbed of with leftover shite- this is all top-notch stuff, just like all our albums, and should be seen (or heard) as a companion set. Radio DJ Vanita 'Stretch' Brock's open request night is plagued by the annoying phone pranking of two road tripping, party-hard, hoodlums, but things take a disturbing turn when the hoodlums meet their demise at the hands of familiar chainsaw wielding maniacs. With the entire gruesome ordeal recorded on tape, Stretch seeks out the help of a former Texas Marshall who's on a personal quest of vengeance against this family of cannibals. While at first he turns her down, he eventually decides to use her tape to his advantage, asking her to air it during her request block- effectively baiting the cannibals to the radio station where he'll personally deal with them.
