This is an interesting session that finds John Williams sitting in with an all-star youth orchestra. The arrangements sound very much like a high school orchestra, however, Williams is careful not to overplay and dominate the session. The "Plymouth Hoe-Down" is particularly fun and closes out the concerto with exhilaration. There are also three additional pieces from composer Paul Hart, written for guitar and keyboards. These pieces alone are worth the price of admission, as Hart masterfully taps into Williams' strengths of adaptability, technical virtuosity and impeccable tone. Highly recommended for both jazz and classical enthusiasts. ~ Robert Taylor, All Music Guide

Broads - Vacancy (2017)
Dreamy pop, Folk | 41:52 mins | MP3, 320 kbps | 102 MB
Label: Broads / Gaga Digi | Year Of Release: 2017

Described as "an aural wonderland" (Paul Gough, The Inside Sleeve, Radio National), Vacancy is Broads at their most expansive and intoxicating. With guest appearances by acclaimed Melbourne musicians Alex O'Gorman on bass, Sarah Galdes on drums, Matt Dixon and Dan Lethbridge on electric guitars, Vacancy sees Broads at their most mesmerising and panoramic.
From the spacious opening track “Green Screen”, the album weaves through a cast of characters riddled with self-delusion, longing, regret and paranoia. Details

The result of the meeting of Michael McCartney (brother of Beatle Paul), who would work as Mike McGear to avoid accusations of coat-tailing, and Post Office engineer John Gorman, the Scaffold took a blend of absurd humor and catchy songs to chart-topping glory throughout the 1960s. Their lineup filled out with Roger McGough and Adrian Henri, the group was briefly known as the Liverpool One Fat Lady All Electric Show, to the horror of everyone around them. Henri soon departed. A change of name later, they were gaining a reputation as one of the most amusing outfits on the scene, with a residency at Peter Cook's Establishment Club (where the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band also held court). The Scaffold's biggest successes were their cheerfully silly singles, starting with "Thank U Very Much" and continuing with "Lily the Pink" (a sterilized adaptation of an old rugby song, featuring Jack Bruce on bass) and the somewhat incomprehensible "Gin Gan Goolie," all of which had a knack for sticking in the mind on endless repeat without causing undue annoyance. These three songs, in particular, are well remembered even as the 1990s draw to a close.

An extremely rare live recording of the scaffold in 1968 when they were top of the charts, this album has been long deleted and never before released on CD. The Scaffold emerged from Liverpool’s early 1960s bohemian scene, the same environment that had nurtured the Beatles. The McCartney brothers linked the two, Paul’s younger brother Mike, under the pseudonym McGear, teaming up with entrepreneur John Gorman and poet Roger McGough in 1963,Britain’s most famous poet whose book of sixties beat poetry “the mersey sound” has sold an unprecedented one million copies. Their stage show, fusing softly satirical sketches with music hall bawdiness, was a hit at the Edinburgh Festival and formed the basis for several successful tours through the rest of the decade.

Possibilities, by jazz piano/keyboard legend Herbie Hancock, with songs by Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Leon Russell, is a multigenerational masterpiece. Rock's "it boy" John Mayer leads off the CD with the spare, bouncy opener, "Stitched Up." Brit-born soul girl Joss Stone and bluesman Jonny Lang get down on the gutbucket "When Love Comes to Town." Christina Aguilera’s excellent vocals illuminate "A Song for You." Not to be outdone, Annie Lennox delivers an operatic take on Holly Cole’s "Hush, Hush, Hush," while Sting's "Sister Moon" swings with stealthy syncopations. Santana and the Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo provide the world flavor on "Safiotou," and the dreamy "Gelo No Montana," with ex-Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, is the lone instrumental. Hancock’s tight solos and intelligent orchestral synths radiate all of the tracks. Like Frank Sinatra’s Duets and Ray Charles’s Genius Loves Company, Possibilities introduces Hancock to a new and awestruck generation.
