Gypsy group composed of Raimundo and Rafael Amador, founded after the group Veneno was dissolved. Their flamenco, rock, and blues music gave rise to an unstoppable outlet which influenced many young musicians. Their aesthetic is close to that of Veneno. Musically they were a group that was widely acclaimed for their live performances, and this opened doors to flamenco sounds and rhythms abroad. The virtuosity of their guitar-playing and their relaxed attitude were well-received outside the world of flamenco. During the decade of the nineties they made fewer public appearances until Rafael Amador was left as leader of the group, and for a time he tried to keep up the band’s activity. After the group disbanded Raimundo began a prolific solo career. Rafael did not record again until he appeared solo on the album Viejo Patio (las 3000 Viviendas). Details

The CD-book ‘Flamenco: Patrimonio de la Humanidad’ journeys through the history of jondo music. In November 2010, UNESCO decided to include flamenco on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural World Heritage, which is the greatest international distinction for any cultural expression. There have been somewhat more than 200 years of history, according to the documented information which is currently held, in which flamenco has continually grown thanks to the creativity of mighty, brilliant, courageous artists who have gone beyond the limits of diverse kinds (territorial, social, political) in order to offer a type of music too beautiful to be ignored.

If the aim of Flamencopolis is to alter any misguided impressions that flamenco is a staid music and dance style whose components are set in stone with little room for innovation, it succeeds wildly. In recent years, artists such as Ojos de Brujo, Ketama and the rocking Raimundo Amador (the latter two are included here, the former, unfortunately, are not) have taken the basic elements of traditional flamenco and created from them something appropriately called nuevo flamenco. Placed side by side with the more traditional form, which often occurs on this project, the two branches of the music sometimes sound so dissimilar that one could make a case that they are not even related. But as if to prove the point that they are indeed, and that the possibilities go even further, Flamencopolis not only converges the new and old flamenco styles, but invites artists from outside of the genre to collaborate with some of flamenco's greats, thus making even more clear that flamenco is capable of seamless integration.
