Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions is Kiss' 17th studio album, and last produced before the reunion of the original Kiss members. Recorded and slated for release in 1995/early 1996, Kiss cancelled its release when they embarked on the reunion tour. However, fans located and circulated bootleg copies in fairly large numbers. Kiss finally released the album in 1997. Details

Johannes Linstead is a Canadian-born guitarist with a European-sounding name who composes and performs music best described as Latin lite. Linstead, a native of Toronto, plays an easy-on-the-ear brand of flamenco music that will likely frustrate genre purists but will endear him to listeners who enjoy flamenco's sunnier side, minus its earthier traditions. Linstead's capable playing, backed by polite percussion and, occasionally, piano and wind instruments, is clean, colorful, and spirited, and his sense of melody, tinged by pop instincts (most evident on "Mezza Luna"), yields an easy-listening, feel-good atmosphere that never really lags from start to finish. Make no mistake, any listener searching for flamenco music brimming with bold ethnic flourishes is advised to look elsewhere. But for people in the mood for a friendly, melodic approach to flamenco played with style and respectable panache, Linstead's music makes a nice choice. Details

Smashes, Thrashes & Hits is a compilation of Kiss's greatest hits from their '80s career. Since there weren't enough chart-toppers from that period to fill an entire album, however, '70s classics from their more theatrical days are also included, such as "Love Gun," "Shout It Out Loud," and "Rock and Roll All Nite." (Peter Criss' power ballad, "Beth," is also featured on the album, but is a re-recorded version with then-drummer Eric Carr on vocals.) This combination of classic power rock and pop-metal is what makes the record entertaining, and the album's two new tracks, "Let's Put the X in Sex" and "(You Make Me) Rock Hard," continue to display Kiss' interesting melodies.

Kiss' 1974 self-titled debut is one of hard rock's all-time classic studio recordings. Kiss is chock full of their best and most renowned compositions, containing elements of Rolling Stones/New York Dolls party-hearty rock & roll, Beatles tunefulness, and Sabbath/Zep heavy metal, and wisely recorded primal and raw by producers Richie Wise and Kenny Kerner (of Gladys Knight fame)...

Of the four Kiss solo albums released in 1978, Paul Stanley's was the most Kiss-like. While Gene Simmons and Peter Criss decided to use the opportunity to explore other musical styles, Stanley--like guitarist Ace Frehley--chose to stick to what he did best. A few tracks are of a more epic nature, such as "Tonight You Belong to Me" and "Take Me Away (Together as One)," but for the most part, PAUL STANLEY is just good old straightforward rock & roll. "Move On," "Wouldn't You Like to Know Me," "It's Alright," "Love in Chains," and "Goodbye" are all hard rockers, while the more serene numbers, "Ain't Quite Right" and "Hold Me, Touch Me," fit in with the rest quite well.

With personnel changes and neglect from a key member of the band, it's amazing ANIMALIZE turned out as well as it did. This record shows Kiss was able to rise above all the groups who copied a style of music that Kiss originated.
After LICK IT UP, "creative differences" pushed lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent out and speed demon Mark St. John in. Without missing a lick, St. John was able to fill Vincent's shoes admirably. Also around this time, Gene Simmons decides to try his hand at acting, starring in such films as "Runaway" and "Wanted Dead Or Alive". Thus, he is listed as Associate Producer but in reality had minimal input. Producer Paul Stanley did a fine job putting his own personal technical stamp on the album. Stanley sings on "I've Had Enough (Into The Fire)," a fast and furious track with motivational lyrics. He also fills in on bass for Simmons on both singles, "Heaven's On Fire" and "Thrills In The Night." Lyrically, Simmon's songs reflect where he was in the 80's with titles like "Burn Bitch Burn" and "Murder In High Heels".

Rooted in the campy theatrics of Alice Cooper and the sleazy hard rock of glam rockers the New York Dolls, Kiss became a favorite of American teenagers in the '70s. Most kids were infatuated with the look of Kiss, not their music. Decked out in outrageously flamboyant costumes and makeup, the band fashioned a captivating stage show featuring dry ice, smoke bombs, elaborate lighting, blood spitting, and fire breathing that captured the imaginations of thousands of kids.
