MP3 320 kbps CBR | 01:29:10 | 204 MB
Genre: Classical, Score, Soundtrack | Label: LPO

This exclusive LPO release charts the development of the Hollywood sound over two decades of epic filmmaking from the 1960s to the 1980s. Featuring the iconic music from such classics as Cleopatra, Psycho and The Godfather, this release offers a unique opportunity to hear some of the 20th centurys most dramatic music, recorded in a live concert setting. Distinguished American conductor John Mauceri arranged and edited most of this music for concert performance, using his experience and expertise to create a truly coherent set of pieces which work as well in the concert hall as they do on screen. A number of the arrangements on this release are appearing on disc for the first time, having received their London premieres at the live performance captured here, including Mauceris arrangements of music from The Godfather and Psycho, which he himself conducted. In particular this is the first ever release of the Cleopatra film music. These recordings were taken from a live concert performance at Southbank Centres Royal Festival Hall in November 2013 as part of the Southbank Centres The Rest Is Noise festival, based on Alex Rosss book The Rest Is Noise. The Corleone crime family has touched millions of lives for more than four decades. From their origins in a pulp fiction novel by author Mario Puzo, the Corleones inspired one of the most important and enduring films in history. Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather not only broke box office records--it actually infiltrated the American conscience. Narrated by Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos,) this special looks at how this groundbreaking 1972 film and its two sequels transcended Hollywood, transformed the American psyche, and even influenced real-life organized crime. Historians, scholars, law enforcement agents, and real-world Mafiosi explain how these powerful mobsters, with their moral ambiguity and human flaws, resonated with audiences and impacted popular culture. Also features interviews with screenwriter/director Coppola, Al Pacino, James Caan, Joe Mantegna, Talia Shire, and others, along with an abundance of memorable scenes from the trilogy.

David Sutton, "Hollywood Blockbusters: The Anthropology of Popular Movies"
Berg Publishers | January 5, 2010 | English | ISBN: 1847884865 | 192 pages | PDF | 2,2 Mb

Why do Jaws, Field of Dreams, The Big Lebowski, and The Godfather remain strikingly popular in this age of fragmented audiences and ever-faster spin cycles? Hollywood Blockbusters argues that these films continue to captivate audiences because they play upon underlying tensions and problems in American culture, much like the myths that anthropologists study in non-Western contexts. In making this argument, the authors employ and extend anthropological theories about ritual, kinship, gift giving, power, egalitarianism, literacy, metalinguistics, stereotypes, and the mysteries of the Other. The results—original insights into modern film classics, American culture, and anthropological theory—will appeal to students of Film, Media, Anthropology, Sociology, and Cultural Studies. Details
