Emmanuelle has a streak of bad luck that starts when she is stripped by a mob of adoring fans at the Cannes Film Festival. Her rotten luck continues when the dictator of a banana republic uses the screening of one of her films as a pretext to get her into his country. Our heroine finds herself admitted into his harem as a slave.

This is a two-disc, 28-track anthology of favorites by Australian guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel. Disc one is electric and disc two is acoustic. This cd is a wonderful introduction to Tommy Emmanuel's music. This virtuoso has been hailed by Chet Atkins as "One of the greatest players on this planet" and was honored by Chet in 1999 as CGP. He's known throughout the world and is starting to make a name for himself in the US. If you enjoy lush rich guitar playing, this one is for you. It's full of many styles - jazz, blues, country - and many moods. It also gives the listener a great sampling of his range both acoustically and electric. I've had the chance to see him live and he plays his music with every fiber of his being. If you cannot get his whole catalog, this one is a great beginning to your collection.

It is difficult to describe this collection of musical moments dedicated to pianist Bill Evans. One can say, for example, that the interplay of Hammond organ and acoustic piano is not only brilliant but, in the way it is done here, totally original.

Quality is laced throughout It s Never Too Late, the first regular studio album featuring Emmanuel completely solo without guests since 2000. A friend and follower of the late Chet Atkins who christened Emmanuel a Certified Guitar Player, making him one of only five musicians to receive the C.G.P. distinction from the master Emmanuel easily skates between musical styles, playing with blues in One Mint Julep, infusing Spanish tradition in El Vaquero and exploring folk in The Duke. An accomplished fingerstyle player, Emmanuel frequently threads three different parts simultaneously into his material, operating as a one-man band who handles the melody, the supporting chords and the bass all at once. That expert layering is evident in It s Never Too Late on the quixotic Only Elliott, the calming title track and the gorgeous Hellos And Goodbyes.

As an Australian, guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel doesn't seem to be much bothered about musical categories. Is his music jazz, folk, bluegrass, new age? Depending on the track, it can be any one. Like his mentor, Chet Atkins, Emmanuel is simply a guitar player, and on Little by Little, a two-CD set, he sticks mostly to acoustic guitar, playing mostly originals, tunes that he has used in concert but not recorded before. He is also mostly solo, although the double-disc length allows him room to share space with guests including singers Pam Rose (on her co-composition "Haba Na Hava") and Anthony Snape (on the folk-rock "Willie's Shades").

"Yves Montand and Claude Debussy, Jacques Brel and André Jolivet -Anette Maiburg is taking us on another conducted tour, bringing musical worlds together. "Classica francese" gives the enterprising and exceptional flautist the opportunity to show us that high-calibre chamber music and deeply expressive chansons need not be worlds apart. She is joined by Alexandra Cravero, whose remarkably flexible voice leaves these well-known songs haunting us, and Emmanuel Ceysson, whose sensitive harp playing has delighted audiences and reviewers alike." ~prestoclassical

At 73, with hundreds of albums and countless sessions to his credit, Chet Atkins still had another great recording in him -- this splendid duo session with the young Australian guitarist/composer Tommy Emmanuel. Here, Atkins leaves all of the smooth jazz experiments from the previous decade and a half behind him, choosing superior material for their acoustic guitars, with the rhythm section laying down swinging country-pie tracks underneath. Emmanuel's fingerpicking style isn't quite as tied to the rhythm as Atkins'; it's a little sharper in attack, fleeter in technique and a bit flashier in temperament, yet remarkably well-matched to that of the east Tennessee master, almost an alter ego...

When the majority of flute concertos are lightweight, it is not surprising that leading flautists are keen to expand the repertory, adapting more ambitious works. That is how, on the suggestion of the composer himself, Jean-Pierre Rampal in 1968 came to prepare a brilliant transcription of Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto recorded here by Emmanuel Pahud. A soft-grained flute could hardly cut through orchestral textures in the concert-hall in the way a violin can, but on disc careful balancing without focusing on the solo instrument too aggressively has produced a successful result.
