The American synthesist Paul Ellis is a fast growing power in electronic music. From the Berlin school-orientated music he created with the band Dweller at the Threshold and on his early solo works, he switched to an impressive mixture between Berlin school, ambient and lots of own inventions. His album "the Sacred Ordinary" already was a masterpiece but what he has done on "Silent Conversations" is no less than sensational. On "Silent Conversations" there is an important place for the genius of ambient Steve Roach, who contributes on four of the nine tracks...

Paul Ellis - Silent Conversations (2005)
Electronica, Ambient | MP3 CBR 320k | 201 MB

This album is a bit of a departure for Paul Ellis, as well as for sequencer EM in general. In addition to synthesizers it features a nice use of guitar, bass, voice and some other acoustic and electric instruments. That doesn't mean, however that Paul's style is unnoticeable, because there are still plenty of rhythmic sequencer tracks done in the typical Paul Ellis manner. On some tracks, Paul is helped by friends Steve Roach, Jeffrey Koepper, Otso Pakarinen and others. So, strictly speaking, some of the tracks on "Silent Conversations" are actually collaborations with other artists.

Paul Ellis - The Last Hiding Place Of Beauty (2009)
Electronica, Ambient | MP3 CBR 320k | 206 MB

Paul Ellis had developed himself into a mighty force in electronic music. After his fantastic 2005-album “Silent Conversations” on which the American multi-instrumentalist (synthesizers, guitars, bass, rhythms) worked with guest musicians like Steve Roach and Jeffrey Koepper and the solo-album “The Infinity Room” from 2006, he returns with “The Last Hiding Place Of Beauty”.
This last hiding place was created visually by the innovative designer Pablo Magne through a really great cover. The mixture between good music and a fine cover always does well. Fitting like a glove.
Ellis was one of the founders of the retroband Dweller At The Threshold with which he recorded some memorable music. Solo, he has created classics with albums like “The Secred Ordinary”, “Silent Conversations” and “The Infinity Room” on the Groove Unlimited label. Also, he released “Echo System” with his fellow American and stylemember Craig Padilla.
With “The Last Hiding Place Of Beauty” he undoubtedly again has released a future classic.

Paul Ellis - The Infinity Room (2006)
Electronica, Ambient | MP3 CBR 320k | 201 MB

Six tracks on this CD with each a very different atmosphere. It is therefore unlikely that the mainstream EM-fan will enjoy the whole album. However, hats off for Paul Ellis because he has managed to make "wandering off the beaten track" his trademark. On this CD we hear a blend of a lot of styles.

Composer George Russell's early-'60s Riverside recordings are among his most accessible. For this set (the CD reissue adds an alternate take of the title cut to the original program), Russell and his very impressive sextet (which is comprised of trumpeter Don Ellis, trombonist Garnett Brown, Paul Plummer on tenor, bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Pete La Roca) are challenged by the complex material; even Charlie Parker's blues "Au Privave" is transformed into something new. It is particularly interesting to hear Don Ellis this early in his career. The most famous selection, a very haunting version of "You Are My Sunshine," was singer Sheila Jordan's debut on records.

Three Phenomenal Guitarists From The Famous Door Record Label. The three enjoyable straight ahead jazz sessions that are reissued in this package have several things in common. They have been out-of-print for years, they are led by talented guitarists who are stimulated by the presence of two other major soloists, each date fatures a quintet that includes swinging bass and drum team, and all of the projects came about due to the guidance of producer Harry Lim, a true friend of Jazz.
