The Swinging Blue Jeans were a four-piece 1960s British Merseybeat band, best known for their hit singles with the HMV label; "Hippy Hippy Shake", "Good Golly Miss Molly", and "You're No Good", issued in 1964. Although they're only remembered today for their 1964 hit "Hippy Hippy Shake," which charted on both sides of the Atlantic -- the Swinging Blue Jeans were actually one of the strongest of the Liverpool bands from the '60s British Invasion; and, indeed, the Blue Jeans' earliest incarnation goes back about as far as the roots of the Beatles as the Quarry Men. "Hippy Hippy Shake" -- a cover of an obscure '50s rocker that was actually done much better by the Beatles on tapes of their BBC performances -- was their only Top 30 entry in the U.S....

Scott Keeton and The Deviants released their new CD 100 Mile Blues, April 6, 1999. JSP signed the band last fall and this is their first release with them. All twelve tracks on this disc are original and range from deep guitar fueled blues such as "Nothing Left to Say," to the drag ‘em out "Back Door Shuffle," from the Dwight Yokum-flavored, "Look At That Girl" to the lyrical romantic playing of "Heart Break" and "Eye On You." It is great stuff and will particularly appeal to those of you with a taste for other cross-generic show stoppers such as The Paladins.
Keeton, based in Oklahoma City where this CD was recorded, has soaked in the musical sounds of the region -- not only blues and rock but also some gritty Southern soul as well. His unwavering commitment to the heart of its songs, a guitar style that could storm a besieged embassy, and a more than on the money vocal style push the listener to a special place. He has amassed twelve years of blues-playing experience, and has been the toast of the South and Southwestern blues clubs for at least seven years.

While it’s entirely accurate to describe the music of Detroit legend Michael Katon as ‘blues’, it also fails to do justice to the power, intensity and raw Motor City attitude that Katon commands with every note and chord. Ever since he first started playing around the bars and clubs of Detroit at the tender age of fifteen, Katon has infused the traditional blues sound with his own Michigan ‘tude, and is today considered one of the world’s finest exponents of blues rock. The album is kicked off by a quartet of songs among the bluesiest herein , first among them numerically and "bluesically" , “Gonna Make My Home Where I Hang My Hat". This version is a stripped-down predecessor to 1982's Rounder title track. This is Johnny alone, gutbucket as all get-out and it is a rare treat. It's the single purest blues I've heard from Johnny and as raw as yesterday's batch of moonshine. Next up we have two more of Copeland's lost classics: "Stealing" and "Working Man's Blues", both of which are simply fantastic. No collection of Copeland's music is complete without these two crackers, nor for that matter any compilation of post-war Houston Blues. "Stealing" is a thumping devil's sermon well-preached by Copeland in a particularly leonine voice, and is not far off from the work of Guitar Slim at his best. As for "Working Man's Blues", this native Houstonian can tell you that somehow Copeland injected the totality of this city into one blues.........
